Digital or printed quinceañera invitations? How to choose, and how to do both

Most families no longer choose one or the other. They send a digital invitation to most guests and print a few cards for the people who will treasure them. Here is what each option does well.

Video invitations

A short animated invitation with her photo and music, sent as an MP4.

Best for: family group chats, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook stories.

Why families like them: they are shared instantly, cost nothing to send and are watched again and again. Guests abroad receive them at the same moment as everyone else.

Keep in mind: a video cannot hold every detail. Pair it with a website invitation for addresses, times and the RSVP.

Invitation websites

A one-page site with the schedule, maps, dress code, hotel information and an RSVP form.

Best for: collecting RSVPs and answering every question in one place.

Why families like them: you can update details after sending, and all the replies arrive in one list.

Keep in mind: older relatives may need a hand opening a link, so add a QR code to any printed card.

Printed invitations

Cards mailed or delivered by hand.

Best for: grandparents, padrinos and anyone who will keep the invitation as a memento.

Keep in mind: printing and postage take time and money, and changes mean reprinting.

The combination that works for most families

  1. Send a save the date video six to eight months ahead.
  2. Publish the invitation website with the RSVP about ten weeks out.
  3. Send the video invitation to everyone six to eight weeks before, with the website link.
  4. Print a small number of cards for grandparents and padrinos, with a QR code to the website.

The party planner calculates each of these dates from her quince date.
